So you’ve never bet on sports before? Perfect! This is best place for you to start learning. Let’s start out with the basics of sports wagering.

Why Bet?
There are plenty of reasons. Some do it for entertainment, some to try and turn a profit, others because… well… who knows. Truth is you can bet for any reason you’d like. Answer this question yourself and you’ll know why your here.

STOP. Can You Afford To Bet?
Before you bet any game, in any sport, can you afford it? There is NEVER a “Guaranteed” win. There is always a chance you will lose your bet, no matter what the sport. Before going any further you need to decide if you are able to lose the money you are planning on better. Once you’ve made your decision, move on to the fun!

The Basics
Betting is very simple. A sports wager (or bet) is simply predicting who will win the game. That’s it. You decide who will win, and put some money up. There are a lot of other options you to make your bet more interesting, but simply picking the winner is the first very basic bet. We’ll get into the other types of bets later.
So you pick a winner, then what? You go to what we call a “bookie”. This can either be an online bookie, or a casino usually. You give them your money and tell them which team you expect to win.
When the game is over, if you picked correctly, you win! You get your wager amount back + your winnings. Winnings are determined by the Odds on the game. Odds are a multiplier number per dollar you bet. If the best team in a league is playing the worst team in the league… your odds will be LOW for picking the best team, because the are expected to win. More on Odds later.
That’s the very basics. You pick a winner, they pay you. If you pick a loser, they keep your money.
